Adding Users

I am getting the following error:

ERROR

None of the users or cross-site groups you entered could be added. Please make sure there were no typing mistakes on the previous page and semicolons were used to separate the names.

I have added them to the server first using the customer portal, then I went to the sharepoint site and selected manage users and add. I was adding a couple just fine, then that error came up and hasn't gone away.

Any ideas?

Using FrontPage on a Sharepoint site

We have a Sharepoint site hosted here and want to add a form that will collect information, send the data by email to a predefined address and, once the data's sent, send the user off to Paypal to pay their bill.

I can see this can be done in FrontPage, so the next question is how? One possibility I can see is that re-invent provide FrontPage access as part of the standard package, and the other is that I need to get my hands on Office 2003 so I have FrontPage installed on my laptop. Which is the case? Right now the 'Edit with FrontPage' links on our site don't go anywhere or ask where to find FrontPage, so I'm assuming I need to get it myself.

Disappearing customized aspx pages?

Has anyone experienced disappearing aspx pages in WSS? I have several web part pages that were then customized and working, then within the last two or three days they are all gone. When you hit the page via browser, you get nothing. In frontpage, these pages display the add a web part here box.

I am in a battle with my boss and the end users on this hokey request because the damn form is already there to use! I've seen this request before. User wants to be able to send an email to insert a new HelpDesk ticket rather than get off their lazy ass and use the entry form provided by SharePoint which is very intuitive and quick. So what does this mean, well a couple of things:

1) Now I have to support and code some wacky interface that does this
2) Anything I build using .NET or if I simply add new fields to the IT Helpdesk form in Sharepoint has to be available in the web template. There goes the entire reason to use SharePoint.... .net integration and more.
3) Users are bound to make m istakes, thus firing off problems with the parsing
4) I have to code extra exception handling

While my boss says I have "Good Points", truly he does not understand that it does not take more than 1 minute extra to simply require the users to use SharePoint, not email and that we're losing money wasting time on this! Ahh....relax, remember, you're at a small company again....this kind of stupid request is expected. The whole point of GUIs is to take the user out of email and use the functionality that we can provide them via the web! I frankly have much more important projects to work on for this business and this has been made my #1 prioiry? something's wrong here.

With that said, is this possible with SharePoint and how would I even do this hokey thing?

If I use OWA(Outlook Web Access) to access WSS, it can access directory. For example, http://localhost/public/myfolder. If I point to a file in such directory, for example http://localhost/public/myfolder/a1.xml, then browser will display 403 error and a1.xml can not be accessed.
Similarity, if I use following code to acesss http://localhost/public/myfolder/a1.xml, it still tell me the 403 error from catch statements:

Guidance on customizing a WSS site

from a WSS newbie, what is the best way to customize the look and navigation of a WSS site? I have created a .html page complete with the images and layouts that I want, but I am at a loss as to the best way to apply it to my WSS site (hosted on re-invent of course). Use Templates? Use Themes? else???

Can't Access/Log into Sharepoint site with FrontPage or IE but Firefox

Need help with determining problem with accessing sharepoint site via Frontpage 2003. When I try to access my sharepoint site via FrontPage 2003, I am receiving a error message dialog that states: The folder 'sharepoint web site' isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a / or \. I believe it may be due to the proxy server used by my client. I also can't log onto the same sharepoint site via IE.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sharepoint 2003 unable to process RSS / XML feeds

Hi,

My Sharepoint 2003 server is unable to process RSS / XML feeds.

When I add an XML URL to an XML Web Part, I get the message "Cannot retrieve the URL specified in the XML Link property. For more assistance, contact your site administrator." I am the site admin, and the message isn't very helpful to me.

I can't even add a normal web site address into the XML Web Part (not that I would normally want to); that also gives the same message.

Note that I get exactly the same results whether I do this on the server that hosts Sharepoint or a client. That is, Internet Explorer on the server is able to display the raw XML feed when the XML URL is entered in the address field of the web browser.

What is strange is that if I add the same (or any) XML URL to the "Page Viewer Web Part", or test the XML URL link in the XML Web Part, it will give me the raw XML feed! I can do this on the server as well as a client. So the server can retrieve the feed, but it doesn't seem able to process it or transform it using the XML Web Part. Could this be a problem somewhere within .Net or even somewhere is IIS?

I have checked my proxy settings in the web.config file in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot on the Sharepoint server, also checked the proxy settings in Site Settings => Central Admin => Manage Search Service => Configure Account and Proxy Settings, and they all have my proxy server set up in there.

Sharepoint 2003 SP1 sits on a Windows 2003 server with SP1 behind a proxy server and firewall, and does have internet access, e.g. it can perform Windows Updates and browse websites etc. It is a member server in a Windows 2000 domain.

All problems were present prior to Windows 2003 being upgraded to SP1.

An article at http://msmvps.com/cgross/archive/2004/06/26/9045.aspx talks about setting ISA server to allow the XML requests, but I don't know how to apply that to my network, as I don't have ISA server. We use WebMarshal which I have access to, and also a firewall running on Linux which I don't really have immediate access to as it is administered by a supplier. The article above mentions creating an outbound packet filter on port 80, and it seems to describe my problem exactly. How do I do that in my environment? But note as above, it is the XML Web Part that can't seem to get access to anything, not neccessarily a problem with the XML streams themselves.

The only other strange thing of note I can think of is that if I try to create a new virtual folder in the Default Web Site which is where my portal is situated in IIS I cannot browse to it in IIS or IE, you get a typical page not found error. The correct index page is there and IIS has been told to look for it in "Home Directory". I can't see how that relates to my problem, but it is something else I have been struggling with and I was wondering if it could be related (or of course resolved somehow).

User can't login to secure sharepoint site.

I have several people that use the same ID and PW to access an information section of my sharepoint site. One person can not login. When he gets the login prompt, it asks him for a domain. He's the only one that I know of that is having this problem.

Any suggestion why it would be asking him for a domain? Any way to get rid of it? It's possible that he's the only one using Win98 STILL!!!

workspace attendee VS. website user

In the help section of sharepoint services, it says that a meeting attendee doesn't have to be a website user. It says that a meeting attendee can be part of the "contributor" group and is able to add/update files in a meeting workspace.

How do you grant an "attendee" permission to be part of a meeting workspace without adding them as a site user? Is this even possible? Below is the exact text from the help section.

If you create or link to a Meeting Workspace site from a Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services event, only your name is automatically added to the Attendees list. You have to manually add the other attendees to the list. Whether you and the other attendees automatically get permissions on the workspace after being added to the Attendees list depends on the permission settings used when the workspace was created.

Workspace site uses the same permissions as the parent site

You and other attendees who already have rights to access the parent site will automatically have rights to access the workspace. For this to work, you must enter a valid e-mail address (for example, someone@example.com) or user name (DOMAIN
ame) in the Attendees list.

Attendees who don't have access rights on the parent site must be granted rights there first. Only the Administrator of the parent site can grant those rights.

Restore a sharepoint site - overwrite - ignore ??

OOOPS! I have an .fwp backup of a sharepoint site that I had previously created. I wanted to restore this backup to my new domain at re-invent. However, I followed the directions, the error messages, and suggestions that Frontpage gave me and now my original root site is gone and my backup has been restored to a subsite.

I then realized I could use synchronize to move the subsite up one level to become the main site. But, there's a folder still remaining there called _catalog. That folder is in conflict with my other _catalog folder. Do I overite it? Do I ignore it?

What do you suggest?

How would I build a form or web part page that automatically uses members information built on my site with web browser, ^{(or a page that registers members and builds their page saving it to several database's of individual parts, as in pictures to picture library, registration info to members info, and users discription's text to some database, field, webpart area or web page)} that builds a individual web page for that member and then save it to a specified folders A - Z????

Example: I need my annoumous users to be able to put a picture, their name and a self discription into a form or web part page using my sharepoint services. Have this information saved in sharepoints database and be able to be linked to. The users built pages can then be automatically linked in order alphabetically by their last names and automatically displayed hyperlinkeds to them in the members list. Viewed by anyone reading the members list.

user authentication through proxies and firewalls?

I need my WSS sites to be available to users who are sitting behind proxies and firewalls. These users are currently not able to login to WSS. When they try to login, they get an access denied error page, and they are not ever presetned with a login dialog box!

I thought the IIS authentication settings (basic etc etc) might fix this probelm, but I am not sure how to go about making the changes.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
